Your Ultimate Guide to a Magical Christmas in Grapevine
Families across DFW dream of a magical Christmas, and Christmas in Grapevine, the Christmas Capital of Texas, seems like the perfect place to find it. But there’s a catch: the most popular attractions, hotels, and events sell out fast.
Between sold-out attractions, packed parking lots, and massive crowds, your ho-ho-hos can quickly turn into no-no-nos. Think of Grapevine Christmas like Disneyland. The magic is scheduled, and the in-demand experiences require planning, reservations, and strategy.

Christmas in Grapevine at a Glance
As long-time Dallas residents, we know that when someone mentions Christmas in DFW, Grapevine is sure to come up! There’s a reason for that!
Grapevine was officially named the Christmas Capital of Texas in 2009 when the Texas State Senate granted the city this recognition. Why? For its packed calendar of seasonal events. No city in Texas does Christmas better!
During the holiday season, Grapevine’s classic Christmas charm is centered around Historic Main Street and Grapevine Town Square, while some of the city’s biggest seasonal attractions are spread across destinations like Gaylord Texan, Hotel Vin, Great Wolf Lodge, Grapevine Mills, and the Grapevine Vintage Railroad.

Some attractions open before Thanksgiving. Some events only happen on one or two specific nights, and some activities continue after Christmas. The season usually runs from late November through early January, though exact dates vary by event.
Now, a lot of people hear “Christmas Capital of Texas” and assume they can simply show up. And they could — but “woulda, shoulda, coulda” would be playing in the background.
There are more than 1,400 scheduled Christmas events over a 40-day period, AND there are only three, count em’ — one, two, three — types of attractions you can join without a ticket.
Best Things to Do During Christmas in Grapevine
This guide is not a list of the 1,400+ Grapevine Christmas events. That would be madness! Instead, for your convenience, we’re breaking Christmas in Grapevine into two categories:
- The Free Activities (No-Ticket-Needed)
- The Competitive Attractions You Absolutely Need to Plan Ahead for
Here’s What’s Up Dallas!
Free Grapevine Christmas Activities
There are a few blessed activities that require neither payment nor entering a ticketing Hunger Games. If you want to enjoy the Christmas Capital of Texas without the stress, here’s how.
Walk Historic Main Street for Grapevine Christmas Lights
If you only do one simple thing during Christmas in Grapevine, make it a walk down Historic Main Street.
You’ll experience that classic small-town Christmas feel with twinkling lights, festive decorations, charming shop windows, cozy restaurants, photo-worthy spots, and plenty of memorable holiday moments.

Also located on Main Street, the Grapevine Christmas Market adds even more holiday charm with gifts, treats, and local vendors. Even if you don’t buy a thing, it’s a lovely place to wander, browse, and grab a hot chocolate.
Best of all, this is one of the easiest ways to enjoy Grapevine at Christmas without booking a ticket.
And more importantly…

Main Street is also where the massive 60-foot live Christmas tree is installed. Just go to Peace Plaza on Historic Main Street (located near the intersection of Main Street and Dallas Road). You’ll see it there.
Plan Your Visit Around a Signature Event
Grapevine also hosts several, big (and free) public events that make the entire town feel like one giant Christmas party.
- Carol of Lights officially kicks off the season with performances, activities, and the lighting of Historic Main Street. (Monday, November 23, 4– 8 PM)
- The Parade of Lights brings marching bands, festive floats, and Santa himself down Main Street. This is the biggest event! (Thursday, December 3, 7 PM)
- And the Merry & Bright Drone Show lights up the sky with hundreds of synchronized drones. (Monday, December 7, also 7 PM)
Note: The dates and times listed are for 2026
These are signature Grapevine Christmas events, so try to align your visit with one of these shows!
Enjoy a Christmas Wine Crawl
This is only for adults, but one thing that doesn’t get enough attention in our opinion? Grapevine’s wine rooms!

Grapevine has long been known for its wine, and that doesn’t change when December rolls around. In fact, the tasting rooms often become even more fun during the holiday season, with many offering seasonal drinks, festive pours, and unique experiences.

Together, the wineries and tasting rooms listed above make up Grapevine’s Urban Wine Trail, a collection of stops serving award-winning wines throughout the city. It’s perfect for adults who want a festive date night, or who simply prefer mulled wine over meeting Santa. There are also paid crawls, but take it from a family who has done the Urban Wine Trail multiple times: you can absolutely enjoy this activity without signing up for a thing!
Standout Activities (Book These Early)
These are the Grapevine Christmas attractions that generally sell out, can get expensive, require reservations, and frankly punish the unprepared.
Santa’s North Pole Express
This is the most iconic and talked about Christmas activity in Grapevine. For about $50 per person, families board a decorated vintage train, enjoy treats, meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, and experience Christmas magic that hopefully your young tykes will remember forever.
This 45 minute ride is adorable, comes with all kinds of goodies, and books up incredibly fast. If riding the North Pole Express is important to your family, plan your visit around ticket availability — not the other way around.

Christmas Wine Train
Think of this experience as the grown-up version of the North Pole Express. You even book the tickets on the same site.
Passengers enjoy wine, Christmas music, and festive décor during a two-hour ride aboard beautifully decorated vintage coaches. If you’re looking for a unique date night outing, this one is hard to beat!
ICE! at Gaylord Texan
If North Pole Express is the most iconic attraction in Grapevine, ICE! at Gaylord Texas is probably the biggest. Every year, this hotel and resort transforms into a full-blown Christmas wonderland for Lone Star Christmas, its annual holiday celebration. It’s a full-scale takeover featuring dazzling light displays, festive activities, and Texas-sized Christmas magic across the resort.

The headliner is ICE!, an indoor attraction featuring giant themed ice sculptures carved from millions of pounds of colored ice. Guests walk through elaborate scenes in freezing temperatures, while bundled up in guest provided blue parkas.
But that’s only one piece of the experience.
Lone Star Christmas also includes festive decorations throughout the resort, photo opportunities with Santa, gingerbread decorating, seasonal shows, snow tubing, and enough twinkling lights to make your phone storage nervous.
Go Ice Skating at Peace Plaza Ice Rink
Speaking of ice, you should go ice skating! Peace Plaza Ice Rink provides this classic winter activity right in the middle of Grapevine’s Christmas celebrations.
Best of all, it’s easy to book and generally has availability the day or week of! You’ll still need tickets, so check availability, but it’s much easier to work into your itinerary than something like Santa’s North Pole Express.

Main Street Santa
Photos with Santa are a classic for a reason! Meet the big man himself right in the heart of all the Christmas festivities! Your kids can share their wish lists while you snap the best Christmas photos ever. Reservations aren’t hard to snag, and it’s an easy activity to pair with a stroll down Main Street.
Experience Christmas at the Palace Theatre
Throughout the season, The Palace Theatre shows classic holiday films like It’s a Wonderful Life, festive productions like A Frank Sinatra Christmas Tribute and timeless plays like The Nutcracker. The lineup also includes magic shows, comedy performances, and more!

We think the movie screenings are the most charming. Whether at home or in a historic theatre, there’s something special about watching your favorite Christmas movie with a cup of cocoa.
Christmas Cartoons & Crafts at Lancaster Theatre
This one is especially great for younger kids. Little ones can watch classic holiday cartoons like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer or make festive crafts and ornaments to take home. There is a whole calendar of different options, and they’re all so cute!
Nash Farm Victorian Christmas & Holiday Events
If all the lights and crowds start feeling a bit overstimulating, head to historic Nash Farm for something completely different.

Nash Farm hosts a variety of holiday events, including the popular Nash Farm Victorian Christmas, where guests can step back in time and experience what Christmas looked like on the Grape Vine Prairie in the late 1800s. Expect traditional music, hands-on holiday crafts, seasonal treats, and farmhands in period clothing bringing history to life.

Where to Eat & Drink
No Christmas outing is complete without something delicious! Whether you’re craving festive cocktails, brunch with Santa, or just a cozy spot to warm up after wandering Main Street, Grapevine has plenty of options.
Holly Jolly Bar at Harvest Hall
If you haven’t been, Harvest Hall is Grapevine’s food hall, so it’s a great option if your group can’t agree on what to eat. Grab tacos, pizza, burgers, or barbecue, then head over to Holly Jolly Bar for a festive drink and a little Christmas magic.
This Christmas pop-up bar goes all in on festive décor and seasonal cocktails. It’s cheerful and exactly what you want from a holiday-themed bar (huzzah).
Brunch With Santa at Bacchus
Why choose between breakfast and Santa when you can have both?

This is a fun option for families who want a festive meal and a chance to meet the big guy without spending the morning chasing holiday activities. Reservations at Bacchus tend to go quickly, so this is one to book ahead if it’s on your wish list!
Cozy Restaurants & Wine Rooms
Sometimes the best Christmas memories are the simple ones. A warm meal. A glass of wine. Twinkling lights outside the window.
Grapevine has plenty of cozy restaurants and tasting rooms that make wonderful stops during your visit. If you have the time, we highly recommend stopping by one and ordering a glass of mulled wine.

Make It a Weekend
You can absolutely do Christmas in Grapevine as a single outing. But if you’re trying to squeeze in multiple attractions — or if you simply don’t want to sprint from one event to another — consider making it a weekend.
A hotel stay turns the whole experience into a mini Christmas getaway and gives you more time to enjoy the lights, food, and activities without feeling rushed. And, as it happens, you have three amazing hotels from which to choose!
Gaylord Texan
The resort’s Lone Star Christmas celebration takes over the entire property with incredible decorations, giant Christmas trees, festive shows, seasonal activities, and enough twinkling lights to make your phone storage nervous.

The big draw is ICE!, an indoor attraction featuring giant themed ice sculptures carved from millions of pounds of colored ice. But that’s just one piece of the experience. Depending on the year, you may also find snow tubing, gingerbread decorating, Santa experiences, scavenger hunts, and more.
Great Wolf Lodge
Families with younger kids may prefer Great Wolf Lodge, where Christmas comes in the form of Snowland.
During the holiday season, this resort also transforms into a snowy wonderland with decorations, seasonal activities, story times, holiday-themed games, and visits from holiday characters—all while the indoor waterpark stays a balmy 84 degrees.
It’s basically Christmas and summer vacation rolled into one.
Hotel Vin
For couples or adults looking for a festive getaway, Hotel Vin is hard to beat.

You’re steps away from Historic Main Street and within walking distance of many of Grapevine’s best restaurants, tasting rooms, and holiday activities. During the Christmas season, this boutique hotel also leans into the festivities with experiences like Winter Wonderland and easy access to the Holly Jolly Bar at Harvest Hall.
And that concludes our Grapevine Christmas roundup!
