Some attractions open before Thanksgiving. Some events only happen on one or two specific nights, and some activities continue after Christmas. The season usually runs from late November through early January, though exact dates vary by event.

Walk Historic Main Street for Grapevine Christmas Lights
If you only do one simple thing during Christmas in Grapevine, make it a walk down Historic Main Street.
You’ll experience that classic small-town Christmas feel with twinkling lights, festive decorations, charming shop windows, cozy restaurants, photo-worthy spots, and plenty of memorable holiday moments.
Also located on Main Street, the Grapevine Christmas Market adds even more holiday charm with gifts, treats, and local vendors. Even if you don’t buy a thing, it’s a lovely place to wander, browse, and grab a hot chocolate.
Best of all, this is one of the easiest ways to enjoy Grapevine at Christmas without booking a ticket.
And more importantly…
Main Street is also where the massive 60-foot live Christmas tree is installed. Just go to Peace Plaza on Historic Main Street (located near the intersection of Main Street and Dallas Road). You’ll see it there.
Plan Your Visit Around a Signature Event
Grapevine also hosts several, big (and free) public events that make the entire town feel like one giant Christmas party.
- Carol of Lights officially kicks off the season with performances, activities, and the lighting of Historic Main Street. (Monday, November 23, 4– 8 PM)
- The Parade of Lights brings marching bands, festive floats, and Santa himself down Main Street. This is the biggest event! (Thursday, December 3, 7 PM)

Together, the wineries and tasting rooms listed above make up Grapevine’s Urban Wine Trail, a collection of stops serving award-winning wines throughout the city. It’s perfect for adults who want a festive date night, or who simply prefer mulled wine over meeting Santa. There are also paid crawls, but take it from a family who has done the Urban Wine Trail multiple times: you can absolutely enjoy this activity without signing up for a thing!

Santa’s North Pole Express

This 45 minute ride is adorable, comes with all kinds of goodies, and books up incredibly fast. If riding the North Pole Express is important to your family, plan your visit around ticket availability — not the other way around.
Christmas Wine Train
Think of this experience as the grown-up version of the North Pole Express. You even book the tickets on the same site.
Passengers enjoy wine, Christmas music, and festive décor during a two-hour ride aboard beautifully decorated vintage coaches. If you’re looking for a unique date night outing, this one is hard to beat!
ICE! at Gaylord Texan
If North Pole Express is the most iconic attraction in Grapevine, ICE! at Gaylord Texas is probably the biggest. Every year, this hotel and resort transforms into a full-blown Christmas wonderland for Lone Star Christmas, its annual holiday celebration. It’s a full-scale takeover featuring dazzling light displays, festive activities, and Texas-sized Christmas magic across the resort.
The headliner is ICE!, an indoor attraction featuring giant themed ice sculptures carved from millions of pounds of colored ice. Guests walk through elaborate scenes in freezing temperatures, while bundled up in guest provided blue parkas.
But that’s only one piece of the experience.
Lone Star Christmas also includes festive decorations throughout the resort, photo opportunities with Santa, gingerbread decorating, seasonal shows, snow tubing, and enough twinkling lights to make your phone storage nervous.
Go Ice Skating at Peace Plaza Ice Rink
Speaking of ice, you should go ice skating! Peace Plaza Ice Rink provides this classic winter activity right in the middle of Grapevine’s Christmas celebrations.
Best of all, it’s easy to book and generally has availability the day or week of! You’ll still need tickets, so check availability, but it’s much easier to work into your itinerary than something like Santa’s North Pole Express.
Main Street Santa
Photos with Santa are a classic for a reason! Meet the big man himself right in the heart of all the Christmas festivities! Your kids can share their wish lists while you snap the best Christmas photos ever. Reservations aren’t hard to snag, and it’s an easy activity to pair with a stroll down Main Street.
Experience Christmas at the Palace Theatre
Throughout the season, The Palace Theatre shows classic holiday films like It’s a Wonderful Life, festive productions like A Frank Sinatra Christmas Tribute and timeless plays like The Nutcracker. The lineup also includes magic shows, comedy performances, and more!
We think the movie screenings are the most charming. Whether at home or in a historic theatre, there’s something special about watching your favorite Christmas movie with a cup of cocoa.
Christmas Cartoons & Crafts at Lancaster Theatre
